URBO Payment Initiation Service (PIS) for WooCommerce

After implementing the Urbo payment initiation solution, we prepared an additional extension for its use in the WooCommerce ecosystem — a module that enables online stores to accept direct bank payments through Urbo Payment Initiation Service.

The first stage was the core payment initiation solution itself: the payment infrastructure, API logic and technical foundation required to initiate and manage bank payments. Later, this solution was extended into the WordPress and WooCommerce ecosystem, making it easier to use in standard e-commerce websites.

The WooCommerce module was published in the official WordPress plugin directory and works as a payment method for WooCommerce stores.

Situation

After the Urbo payment initiation solution had been implemented, there was a need to adapt it for a broader e-commerce segment. Many online stores run on WooCommerce, so individual integration for each client would have required more technical work, longer preparation and a higher implementation barrier.

A separate, easy-to-install module was needed to allow WooCommerce store administrators to activate the Urbo bank payment method directly in the WordPress admin environment.

The solution had to rely on the already implemented Urbo payment initiation infrastructure, while also meeting the requirements of the WooCommerce ecosystem: clear configuration, secure API credential management, payment status updates, modern checkout support and compatibility with the newer WooCommerce architecture.

Solution

The WooCommerce module was developed as an additional application layer for bringing the Urbo payment initiation solution into e-commerce platforms.

Store administrators can activate the Urbo payment method, enter API credentials, select the sandbox or production environment and accept payments through Urbo Payment Initiation Service.

When a customer places an order, the module initiates the payment through the Urbo API, passes the required order data and returns the customer to the online store after the payment process. The order status can be updated automatically based on payment status notifications received through webhooks.

The module supports WooCommerce Blocks checkout, is compatible with HPOS architecture and is published in the WordPress.org directory as a publicly available Urbo bank payment solution for WooCommerce stores.

What we implemented

  • Additional adaptation of the Urbo payment initiation solution for the WooCommerce ecosystem

  • WooCommerce payment method integration with Urbo Payment Initiation Service

  • API connection for payment initiation and status checking

  • Sandbox and production environment selection

  • Automatic order status updates through webhooks

  • WooCommerce Blocks checkout and HPOS compatibility

Our role

  • Technical implementation of the Urbo payment initiation solution in the earlier project stage

  • WooCommerce module architecture

  • WordPress plugin development

  • Integration with the Urbo API

  • Adaptation of payment initiation logic for the WooCommerce environment

  • Preparation for publication in the WordPress.org plugin directory

Result

The WooCommerce module extended the use of the already implemented Urbo payment initiation solution and made it available for standard WordPress online stores.

This reduces the need for individual integration, simplifies implementation for e-commerce businesses and enables Urbo bank to reach a broader WooCommerce user base.

The project became an additional step in the Urbo payment initiation ecosystem: from the payment initiation infrastructure implemented by our team to a publicly available module that can be used in WooCommerce online stores.
